While I'm super jazzed about the sleek black iPod I acquired on Friday, it seems that the problem that I was having with random skipping still exists. I was listening to Rihanna's latest this evening and the second song skipped ahead to the next track with 43 seconds still left to play. A later track skipped just 1:34 into the song. Seems that the problem wasn't with my old iPod after all and it does serve to confirm a problem with Apple's encoding format. Either that, or my downloads from the iTunes store are corrupted and/or incomplete. In any case, looks like Amazon.com is going to get my money for downloads in the future, because they give me DRM-free mp3 files and I've never had any problems at all with mp3's.
What I don't get is that I seem to be the only one I know of with these kinds of playback problems. Am I the only one buying music from iTunes? Maybe it's because I buy entire albums instead of just singles here and there. Is this some sort of problem with my computer? The questions abound...but, until iTunes starts providing DRM-free, mp3 formatted downloads, I think I'm sticking with Amazon.com as previously stated. I must say that it is really rather frustrating though that for now I have to hit up bit torrent to download mp3 versions of albums that I've already purchased from Apple.
Anybody else out there having these problems or know of anyone who is?

that's why i still use a cassette/radio walkman......either that, or it's because i'm technology poor.
I still have cassettes, and my premium stereo in the G has a cassette player, oddly enough. However, the idea of carrying around my entire digital library in one tiny little box is so much more appealing than lugging around boxes and boxes of other little boxes that contain poor quality recordings. :)
Cassettes had their problems too - I can't count how many tapes just wore out, broke, locked up, froze, melted, or whatever else. Being a Luddite has it's drawbacks, man. That's why I choose to be somewhere in the middle ground between Luddite and early-adopter.
It's safer there.
Going through my garage two weeks ago I came across my box of cassettes. I dusted it off, and Holy Platform Boots!! I IMMEDIATELY put Pyromania into my home stereo and barely made out, "Fa-fa-fa-foolin'" before the tape disintegrated into dust inside the deck. Yes, I cried.
yeah, cassettes do have their problems. actually, since i sit at a desk all day, i usually go to slacker.com, or use window's media player; where i've downloaded my cd's at just hit random. here the last several months i've used slacker though. i am intrigued by the new slacker portable, but am not willing to spend $200 for one.
i've been looking at gaming consoles too, but $400+, uh, no. i'm wondering how much cheaper it would be just to go build a modem at fry's, where the sole purpose would be for gaming, and hook it up to my tv? which is probably why i enjoy lotr risk, and other board games like strat-o-matic baseball.
yeah i know, i'm still 12 at heart.
I've got a digital version of Pyromania if you want it, headbanger. Just think of it as preserving your investment that you've already made by buying the music in cassette form. ;)
YES, I WANT IT! It's NOT too late for love.
