Just in case you've ever wondered what my IM conversations would be like late night, check out this little exchange between JDev (see the Friendly Blog links for more) and myself as the clock approached midnight:
phalanx958: Son, if you think a switch is a metaphor for my family's abnormally large ... units, you are sadly mistaken.
Drewid22: heh
Drewid22: so you're saying that they're abnormally short? Nice.
Drewid22: way to represent.
phalanx958: youre lack of contextual interpretation tonight is alarming.
Drewid22: your inability to perceive sarcasm and play along with a joke is saddening.
phalanx958: your ineptitude in dealing with socially obscure verbal banter with words that are not used in everyday speech is baffling
Drewid22: well, sir....your inability to obfuscate the absence of a sense of humor and frivolity by the use of extraneous and excessive verbiage is, quite simply, appalling.
phalanx958: Well, kind friend, I am not certain as to the reason you have become so sycophantic, but just as well, your obvious absence of verbal competence is amusing, at best.
Drewid22: quite.
I'm glad to see that the English education that I received has been put to good use. These are the kinds of things that happen when I've gotten up insanely early in the morning and am staying up way too late talking to others who have the same linguistic maladies and predilections that I have.
Word.
